Hard Drive Can Silencer
by Charles Pickler
Inside hard disk drives there are strong magnets. These magnets, many times stronger than the usual sort, are made from Neodymium, which may soon be classified as a dangerous substance. To open an old drive you either need a set of small Torx screwdrivers or a Philips screwdriver will do the job.

Neodymium magnets excel at holding the metal 'marble' inside Montana and other brands of paint. Many tins have ceramic marbles instead, you'll have to experiment. Pop one of these magnets on the bottom or outside of your can and you won't rattle when walking down the street, and you'll be especially quiet when walking out of the yard with those usually-noisy empty tins.
