Pickle Pen
By Charles Pickles

There are two types of bits you might want to use: a diamond coated engraving bit (be sure and get the diamond coated type!) for a Dremel-type tool, Dremel #7105 bit for example)

or a ceramic drill bit, which looks like an arrowhead

You'll want the diamond bits for glass, they scribe deep like a hot knife through butter. Quickness is the key to using them for large scribes; slow and methodical works great for small detailed scribes. The arrowhead drill bit is good on painted surfaces and work wonders on ceramic tiles, dark colored ones especially, where scribing the surface exposes the white interior or on metal and plastic surfaces.

In either case, the bit's shaft is placed into a pen where you've removed the ink cartridge; if you're unlucky you'll have to drill or file the pen body to accomodate the bit shaft but if you have a desk drawer full of pens keep trying and you're likely find one that will work without modification.

And oh how innocent that Biro looks...
